A COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ON OUTDOOR ADVENTURE IN NEPAL

Proposed Program
a. Background
Outdoors Nepal is an institution dedicated to provide comprehensive educational adventure courses through experiential learning for students. It provides the platform for the next generation to be aware of their potentials and how co-existence of man nature can be achieved. It gives them the opportunity to develop their skills in wilderness and enjoy the environment and natural beauty.

As Nepal is a country which has a great potential as a travel destination it is important for the young generation to have the experience of wilderness adventure so in future they can contribute to this cause or be supportive

b. Objectives
The following objectives are necessary for a strong outdoor program in a high school or a college.

i. Provide a place where people with similar interests may meet. The outdoor program serves as a place on campus where people may propose trips or activities to others. It is a place where they may gather free from pressures imposed by some structured circles, plans and initiate all kinds of wilderness activities, and find people who share these needs and feelings. People use this facility to put up trip sign-up sheets, check maps, sort and pack items and equipment. They use the craft center next door to rent, buy and construct items of equipment. The program has a collection of maps and books and may occasionally rent films as well.

ii . Teach and lead others . Not everyone is capable of leading, but some may have these traits latently. By developing confidence in certain skills, a participant in the outdoor program may soon wish to "turn on" others to his newly found joy in, say hiking . Thus, a teacher and leader emerges.

iii. Provide Co-educational Group Outing . All of the activities in the outdoor program are offered to boys and girls alike. Both participate in al stages of trip planning and preparation.

iv. Trip selection. A participant must be able to select trips and activities according to his interest and ability. This is the crux of the program People must have the option to choose outings that correspond to their interest and ability level.

v . The outdoor program must teach basic skills. Many activities are potentially dangerous and require some knowledge on everyone's part. by offering teaching sessions in activities such as rock climbing, mountaineering, camping, kayaking, rafting, canoeing, rubber boating and survival the program is assured that participants have had the opportunity to learn at least the basic skills and safety precautions necessary for a pleasant outing, people tend to pass on their newly acquired skills to other interested newcomers. This revolving instruction perpetuates itself and leaders emerge naturally.

It is not an objective of the outdoor program to structure situations where people are forced to pit themselves against nature. Ideally, participants will gradually learn skills to hurl them surmount problems they confront in the wilderness. When a participant learns in this fashion the confrontations are usually positive, the adventures highly exciting, and the experiences ecstatic. Because learning is positive, a person yearns for and seeks further wilderness adventures.

c. Activities

Rock climbing

These courses provide quality instruction, genuine challenges and progression at your own pace. Rock climbing consists of climbing up a rock face using ropes and harnesses. You will learn technical climbing techniques and safety skills, as well as rapelling , knots and rope handling.

With world class climbing instructors and low student/instructor ratios, you'll encounter routes that blow your mind, challenge your endurance, redefine you strengths. You'll master the fundamentals-anchors, belay systems, hardware and environment - and discover in yourself a deep well of focus and commitment that will serve you for the rest of your days.

Rafting
The foremost reason for rafting down the white water river is to experience the thrill and the rush of adrenaline which is being rarer to find in everyday life. But on top of that it gives the students an opportunity to learn skills with oars and paddles. It teaches endurance and patience. it is fun and perhaps the memories of which will be the most long lasting. This provides the unique opportunity for the student to acquire the skills for preparing the raft and encountering the rapids of white waters.

d. Skill Level

This is an outdoor course filled with adventure and dare. The participant must be physically fit and willing to endure fatigue. The duration of the course expands to a week or more, physical stamina is essential. During the first couple of days of the program the management will take a series of physical tests and decide whether the applicant is fit for the course or not.

Your course will be most successful if you are fully invested and motivated to be on the course. We can't stress enough that the more fit you are for your course the happier you shall be.

e. Safety and caution

In any outdoor activity safety is of primary concern. From day one our team gives the detailed safety measures that should be followed accordingly. To have a safe journey the student must be disciplined and heed the safety advises imparted to him/her.

The safety measures will first be generalized in the orientation and the first aid classes then it will be re emphasized in detail in every step of the trip. There are different types of safety levels to be observed in different types of activities which must be followed word by word in every circumstance.

f. Enrollment Procedure

We aim to develop the interpersonal skills and group dynamism through this program thus students from different schools will come together as a team and carry out the courses. This will provide them the opportunity to interact with individuals from different schooling background and to learn more about the similarities and differences and to explore into oneself with confidence.

After the application forms are filled and the permission is taken form the school and the parents, all the potential candidates will have to go through the physical tests on the first couple of days of the program.

If the selection committee decides that the candidate is physically fit to carry out the course he/she will be eligible to enroll in the program.

g. Insurance

We traverse through rugged topography and places where the level of risk is high. In spite of all the precautions and safety measures, accidents are sometimes unforeseeable and unavoidable. In case of some unfortunate mishaps the treatment will create an extra financial burden which can be avoided by taking careful insurance measures. Every participant of the program must be insured before the initiation of the program.
