Attracting the highest number of trekkers to this destination, the complete trek circles the Annapurna range.
An assortment of vegetation, change in elevation and diversity in culture and traditional values, the trek offers a great variety from subtropical plains through trans-Himalayan lifestyle.
With the initial stage of the trek going along the Marshyangdi valley before ascending to Thorung Pass, the highlight is the Great Himalayan Divide. The route then leads to Kali Gandaki, famous for its barren beauty comparable to the Tibetan plateau. On the Thorung Pass, the next stop is Muktinath, temple of the Lord of Salvation. And after many days of wandering and discovery, you eventually arrive to the ever-amazing landscape of Pokhara.
Annapurna Circuit (18 Days)
Trekking for 18 days around the Annapurna range. Starts from Besisahar, ends in Pokhara.
Deepest point: Besisahar, 760 m
Highest point: Thorung La, 5416 m
Main difficulties:
- High elevation between Manang and Muktinath.
- Snow on the Thorung La after bad weather
Equipment: Lodges and tea houses on the whole way. Light mountain shoes or simple mountain shoes to cross the Thorung La and down-jacket or fibre-filled jacket, warm dress and sun glasses.
Best time: October - November; March - May
Object of interest: Dasain and Tihar festivals in the Hindu areas of the lower Marsyangdi valley and around Pokhara (October).
Gompas in Pisang, Braga, Muktinath, Marpha.
Hindu temple in Muktinath.
Caravan road in the Thak Khola.
Rhododendron flower at Ghorepani Deorali (April - June).
